If you’ve ever been mid-job and watched your phone light up with a booking you simply couldn’t answer — you’ll know the frustration. That fare goes elsewhere, and there’s not a thing you can do about it. It’s one of the quiet, everyday realities of being a self-employed taxi driver or a small fleet operator. But a new AI tool from DriverMatty is aiming to change that, and it’s currently taking early access sign-ups ahead of its official launch.

What is it?
The tool is still in development and hasn’t been given an official name yet — the “Taxi Booking Assistant” branding on the sign-up page is simply a placeholder used to collect early interest from drivers and operators. What we do know is what it’s designed to do, and on paper it sounds genuinely useful.
The idea is to give taxi drivers and fleet operators an AI-powered assistant that handles bookings, answers customer queries, and manages schedules around the clock — including when you’re on a job, stuck in traffic, or asleep. It operates through WhatsApp, so there’s no new app to download and no complicated setup to get your head around.
What’s it promising to do?
For independent drivers, the tool would work as a kind of personal co-driver. You could forward it a WhatsApp screenshot of a booking and it would automatically extract the details and save them to your schedule — no manual typing required. You’d then be able to ask it things like “What’s my first job tomorrow?” or “What’s the flight number for my 3pm pickup?” and get an instant reply, by text or voice note.
It also plans to handle flight status checks and send automated reminders to passengers, which would be particularly handy for drivers doing a lot of airport runs.
For operators and small fleets, the assistant could be embedded on a website or linked from social media, letting customers book at any hour without someone needing to be available on the phone. Common questions — pricing, pet policies, child seat availability — would be answered automatically, and enquiries that come in while drivers are busy would be captured rather than lost.

Who’s behind it?
It’s being developed by DriverMatty, a familiar name in the UK taxi community known for practical, driver-focused content. One beta tester from Manchester noted that being out on a job used to mean missing weekend bookings — something the tool is specifically designed to fix.
Worth watching?
The taxi industry has been fairly slow to embrace AI tools compared to other sectors, so anything built with the specific needs of drivers and operators in mind is worth keeping tabs on. The early access waitlist is open now, with those who sign up reportedly being offered exclusive launch pricing when the product goes live.
There’s no official launch date confirmed yet, and the product still doesn’t have a public-facing name — but if you’re curious or want to get in early, the sign-up page is live now through DriverMatty.
