The arrest figure was reported by the force’s live facial recognition lead and is a cumulative total. West Yorkshire’s first deployment took place in November 2025, so the latest announcement marks an update on its use rather than the introduction of the technology.
The update also detailed a two-day deployment in Wakefield city centre during the week of the announcement, when two camera vans were in operation. The 82 arrests relate to the period since launch, not solely to those two days in Wakefield.
Police also reported carrying out the 95 checks on people subject to Sexual Harm Prevention Orders. That figure describes order-compliance checks, rather than a further total of arrests or findings that orders had been breached.
