The Charity Commission has criticised former trustees of Coventry City of Culture Trust in findings published on 4 September 2026, concluding that inadequate financial oversight amounted to misconduct and/or mismanagement.
The conclusions mark the end of the regulator’s compliance case following the trust’s collapse. The charity entered administration on 28 February 2023; the new development is the Commission’s assessment of its former trustees’ financial oversight.

The trust had secured a £1 million council loan in October 2022, several months before entering administration. The Commission said the charity may already have been insolvent before that loan was secured.
