UK new-car registrations rise 13.7% in August as battery-electric share reaches 29.8%, SMMT says

UK new-car registrations rose 13.7% year on year in August to 94,236 units, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Battery-electric registrations increased 27.7% compared with August last year, taking a 29.8% share of the month’s new-car market.

The SMMT said August is a low-volume month ahead of the September registration-plate change. It said September would provide a more meaningful test of demand than the August figures.
