Electric vans reached a record 16.3% share of the UK light commercial vehicle market in August, as electric LCV registrations climbed 25.9% year on year to 2,395 units.
The figures were published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which reported 14,445 new vans, pickups and 4x4s registered during the month. Overall LCV registrations increased by 0.6% compared with August 2025.
Despite the monthly increase in electric-van registrations, uptake remains well below the UK’s 2026 ZEV Mandate target. Electric LCVs accounted for 11.0% of registrations year to date, compared with the 24% target set for the full year.

Total LCV registrations reached 201,671 year to date, representing growth of 4.0%. The market’s performance was uneven across vehicle types, with large-van registrations rising 5.2% to 10,943 units.
Pickups continued to weaken, however. Registrations fell by 61.2% to 404 units, marking the 11th consecutive monthly decline for the segment.
The August figures give electric vans their strongest reported monthly market share, but the year-to-date data shows the scale of the challenge facing the sector in meeting the 2026 mandate. The record monthly result has not yet closed the gap between current electric-LCV uptake and the annual target.
