A 26-year-old woman has died after a collision involving a private-hire taxi on Aigburth Road in Liverpool. A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving while under the influence of drugs.
Merseyside Police said it received a report shortly before 5.40pm on Wednesday 2 September 2026. The collision occurred on the city-bound carriageway of Aigburth Road, between Fulwood Road and Larkfield Road.
Police said the vehicles and people involved included a white Toyota Voxy private-hire taxi and the female pedestrian. She was taken to hospital after the collision and later died. Her next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
The 41-year-old driver stopped at the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving while under the influence of drugs. The force said he remained in custody when its appeal for information was issued on 3 September.
The arrest is an allegation under investigation. It does not amount to a charge and does not establish criminal liability. The police appeal did not record a charging decision.

The investigation is being handled by Merseyside Police’s Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Officers said CCTV and witness enquiries were under way as they worked to establish the circumstances of the collision.
Police said Aigburth Road would have had substantial traffic at the relevant time, including buses, taxis and delivery vehicles. The force is seeking information from people who may have witnessed what happened.

The appeal is an evidence-gathering request rather than an announcement of a completed investigation. Merseyside Police has not said that any further legal outcome has been reached beyond the arrest and the continuing enquiries.
