Liverpool John Lennon Airport has quietly made a significant step forward in how it manages its security infrastructure — and it’s the kind of upgrade that most passengers won’t see, but will absolutely benefit from.
Following a successful three-month trial, the airport has moved to a full contracted rollout of Arbitex, a CCTV assurance platform developed by Telent, a mission-critical technology specialist. The platform is now being extended across the airport’s entire CCTV estate, giving the technical team continuous, around-the-clock visibility into the health and performance of every camera on site.

What Does Arbitex Actually Do?
In simple terms, Arbitex keeps a constant eye on the cameras that keep an eye on everything else. The system automatically verifies that each camera is connected and working, checks that it’s correctly aligned against a set reference image, and assesses overall image quality. It can also detect practical issues like a lens being obscured by dirt, a camera that’s drifted out of position, or gradual image degradation that might not be obvious to a human engineer carrying out periodic spot checks.
The shift here is from reactive to proactive maintenance. Previously, faults would typically only come to light when someone reported a problem — by which point the camera in question may already have been compromised for some time. With Arbitex running continuously, the team can identify a potential issue early and schedule the appropriate maintenance before it becomes an operational problem.
Michael Brown, Head of Technical Services at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, described the system as an invaluable tool, saying the platform provides “consistent visibility of system performance and early insight into potential issues, allowing us to take a more proactive approach to maintenance.” He added that in a critical infrastructure environment, that level of assurance is extremely valuable.
Why the Timing Matters
The rollout comes at a good time. Liverpool John Lennon Airport set a new all-time passenger record in 2025, handling 5.6 million passengers across the year — and summer 2026 is expected to be another busy period. Having reliable, fully operational CCTV coverage across the terminal estate during peak season is not just good practice, it’s essential.
The airport has also been investing heavily in its wider infrastructure in recent years, including the installation of next-generation security screening equipment and a significant multi-million pound redevelopment of food and beverage areas in the departure lounge. The Arbitex rollout fits neatly into that broader picture of a modernising airport that’s not standing still.
The Bigger Picture for Airport Security Tech
This kind of AI-assisted monitoring is becoming increasingly common in critical infrastructure. The days of relying purely on scheduled manual inspections or waiting for faults to be reported are giving way to continuous, data-driven oversight that can flag problems in real time. For an airport operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, that’s a meaningful step forward.
Reg Cook, Director of Asset Management at Telent, noted that the goal is to give organisations confidence that their critical systems are performing as expected — and that continuous monitoring of camera performance and image quality enables teams to identify changes early and maintain infrastructure more effectively.
It’s not a glamorous upgrade. Passengers won’t notice a thing. But behind the scenes, it’s exactly the sort of investment that keeps a busy regional airport running smoothly — and that’s worth knowing about.
