Warrington town centre saw a surge in police activity this past weekend as officers teamed up with local councils to carry out a dedicated taxi licensing operation.
While police also used drug dogs to patrol local bars and clubs as part of Operation Brooklyn—an initiative aimed at reducing drug-related activity and safeguarding vulnerable people—a significant part of the weekend’s efforts focused on ensuring that taxis and PHVs operating in the area were safe and following strict licensing rules.
The operation involved special constables working alongside licensing officers from both Warrington Borough Council and the City of Wolverhampton Council. During the checks, authorities inspected numerous vehicles to confirm they met the required standards.

Enforcement Action Taken
The crackdown resulted in immediate action against several drivers and their vehicles. According to the Warrington Police team, “multiple taxis were checked, and action has been taken on those not complying with conditions.”
The inspections highlighted several safety and conduct issues. Police confirmed that:
- One vehicle was suspended for an engine management issue.
- Two vehicles were issued defective notices.
- One driver has been referred for a conduct review.
These measures were part of a broader, ongoing effort to maintain high standards within the local transport trade and ensure the safety of passengers during the town’s busy night-time hours.
