Warwick council to consider 10% hackney carriage fare increase

Warwick District Council’s cabinet is due to consider a proposed 10% increase in maximum hackney-carriage fares covering Warwick, Kenilworth and Leamington Spa.

The proposal, scheduled for consideration on Wednesday 9 September, would increase the initial daytime fare from £4.40 to £4.85. It concerns the 127 licensed hackney carriages operating under the district’s licensing arrangements.

The proposed change applies to maximum hackney-carriage fares only. It would not change private-hire fares.

If cabinet approves the proposal, the council would publicly advertise the proposed fare change and allow objections to be submitted. The increase is expected to take effect in October 2026 if the statutory process does not produce any unresolved objections.

The cabinet meeting is therefore the next decision point, rather than the date on which the higher fares would automatically come into force. A cabinet decision would be followed by the advertisement and objection stage before implementation.

Until that process is completed, the proposed £4.85 daytime flag fare remains subject to approval and objections. The proposal covers the maximum fares for hackney carriages in the three towns and does not represent a change to private-hire pricing.
