Liverpool City Council’s licensing enforcement team has issued 55 Penalty Charge Notices and moved on 65 vehicles during a joint operation targeting cars illegally parked on taxi ranks across the city centre.
The operation, carried out in the evening alongside colleagues from the council’s Parking Services team, focused on motorists who had left their vehicles in bays reserved for licensed Hackney Carriages. Liverpool Licensing confirmed the results in a statement, describing the ongoing effort to keep ranks clear and accessible as “a priority”.
It’s the latest in a run of similar joint operations the council has carried out across the city centre over recent months, as officers continue to target private vehicles that block designated taxi-only bays during busy trading periods. For licensed drivers, blocked ranks mean lost fares and, in some cases, having to pick up or drop off passengers away from a designated, safer spot.
The council has indicated that further enforcement activity of this kind is expected to continue, with officers and Parking Services likely to carry out more joint operations in the coming months as part of the wider push to protect rank access for the licensed trade.
