Could the long-awaited Tesla minivan finally be on the horizon? New whispers in the automotive world suggest that Tesla is developing a multiple-passenger vehicle, and while it may not be a conventional minivan, it’s something very much in that “people carrier” space.
Industry analysts are now debating whether this rumoured vehicle will be an entirely new model or, potentially, a significantly revised and larger version of the established Model X SUV (Tesla Model V Maybe?).
The idea of a Tesla van isn’t new. Elon Musk has frequently discussed the necessity of an electric van for the Cybertruck ecosystem, and the recent introduction of the Cybercab (Tesla’s purpose-built robotaxi) has shown that the company is willing to explore diverse body styles beyond traditional sedans. However, the initial speculation that Tesla would simply build a Cybervan—essentially a passenger van utilising Cybertruck’s rigid steel construction—might be giving way to a different concept.

To visualise this potential shift, DM News has created a conceptual rendering using Gemini. This image shows a potential design that blends the striking, established front end of a Model X with the classic, multi-purpose boxy body of a luxury van, similar to the Mercedes-Benz V-Class style premium minibus. We hope this visualisation captures the premium, high-occupancy vehicle that seems to be in development.
The rumours now point towards a vehicle better described as a “multi-purpose vehicle” (MPV). This could take several forms. It could be a full-sized electric van capable of seating eight or more. Or, it could be a vehicle built specifically to compete in the luxury shuttle and private livery market, a segment currently dominated by vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, especially popular in European capitals and large US cities.
Tesla is, first and foremost, a data-driven company. If they launch an MPV, it will be because the market dynamics are undeniable. Traditional minivans have struggled against SUVs, but a luxury, autonomous-ready electric MPV might create a completely new market segment.
The argument for a radically expanded “Model X Max” rather than a brand-new vehicle is also strong. Modifying the existing architecture, potentially with Falcon Wing doors on a slightly larger or taller chassis, would be a significantly cheaper route than launching an entirely new platform. This vehicle could specifically bridge the gap between high-end private ownership and commercial ride-hailing fleets.

Whether it’s a Cybervan, an all-new MPV, or a Model X with extra seating, the consensus is that something big is on the horizon. Tesla needs to continue diversifying to meet its ambitious sales goals, and a passenger carrier seems like the inevitable next step in the Master Plan.
