Passengers travelling through East Midlands Airport are facing disruption after a power cut knocked the airport’s baggage system out of action on Bank Holiday Monday.
The airport said a brief loss of power early on Monday, 31 August affected a number of its systems.
While some airport systems recovered, the baggage system remained out of operation during the morning as engineers worked to restore normal service.
East Midlands Airport apologised to passengers for the disruption and said specialist system engineers were continuing work on the problem.
Passengers booked to travel later in the day were being advised to continue to the airport as normal.
However, travellers were also urged to check the latest flight information directly with their airline before setting off.
The airport has not announced how many passengers, bags or individual flights have been affected by the failure.
There has also been no indication that the power cut forced the airport itself to close.
The main problem reported by the airport relates to the processing of checked baggage.
Passengers carrying essential medication have been specifically reminded to keep it with them in their hand luggage rather than placing it inside checked suitcases.

Anyone travelling from East Midlands Airport today should allow plenty of time, keep essential items and medication in cabin baggage where permitted and continue checking airline communications for any changes to their flight.
