As Everton FC prepares to move into its state-of-the-art stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, concerns are growing over potential parking and traffic issues in the area. Council’s Response: Football Match Parking Zone
Liverpool City Council has introduced a ‘Football Match Parking Zone’ (FMPZ) to manage the impact. The scheme includes:
- Resident-Only Parking: Local residents can apply for free permits to ensure they are not affected by match-day traffic.
- Business Vehicle Charges: Local businesses requiring parking for company vehicles will need to pay £50 per vehicle annually.
- Designated Transport Hubs: Plans include match-day bus stops and taxi ranks to encourage the use of public transport.
- Strict Enforcement: Traffic wardens will monitor the area, issuing fines to unauthorised vehicles parking in restricted zones.
Will the Measures Be Enough?
While the FMPZ aims to ease congestion, some residents and business owners remain sceptical. Concerns have been raised about increased enforcement, limited alternative parking options, and the potential for surrounding streets to become overwhelmed with vehicles trying to avoid restrictions.
The council will trial the measures under an 18-month Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO), allowing for adjustments based on feedback from the public. Everton fans and local communities will be closely watching how effective the new regulations are in practice.
