A story has been shared all over the taxi and private hire Facebook groups to raise awareness because what you post online can cause huge consequences in real life… Cumbria police arrested a taxi driver based in Workington due to posting racially motivated offensive content online.
On August 10, Cumberland Council revoked his license, decisive action to protect public safety.
On September 13, the crown court reviewed the case and decided to drop it because it was not in the public interest to proceed.
Due to the charges being dropped, the Workington taxi driver can now reapply to the council to get his license back. The council has stated that “he would be allowed to reapply for his license and any decision will be considered by the council’s licensing regulatory sub-committee.”
DM News is sharing this article to make people aware that online trolling and abuse on social media can have a large impact on your real life and if you are a taxi driver could lead to losing your livelihood.
