Wiltshire Private Hire Driver Suspended Following Allegation Involving Teenage Passenger

A Wiltshire private hire driver has been suspended from duty and is under active investigation following serious allegations that he “pestered a young girl for a kiss” after completing a journey last weekend.

The incident is reported to have taken place on Saturday, 27 July, after a 17-year-old girl was picked up in Swindon by a driver operating for the private hire firm Swoop. She was being transported approximately 15 miles to Calne when the alleged incident occurred.

Upon arrival at the drop-off point, the driver is said to have “turned to the back seat and pestered her for a kiss,” according to a complaint made by the girl’s parent.

Swoop confirmed that the driver in question, who began working with the company on 4 July 2025, has been suspended with immediate effect. A spokesperson for the firm said:

“A self-employed taxi driver has been the subject of a complaint that we received by email yesterday, from the parent of a young female. As a result, we have suspended the driver from receiving any bookings.”

The company added that it is working closely with all relevant authorities, including Swindon Borough Council, which licensed the driver, and Wiltshire Police, who are investigating the matter.

“We have also been communicating with the parent of the female who has brought these allegations and cooperating with the police in their inquiries. We are also assisting Swindon Borough Council in their review of this matter,” the spokesperson added.

Swoop expressed hope that dashcam or CCTV footage from the vehicle may provide clarity and assist investigators.

“We sincerely hope this will help everyone reach the correct outcome swiftly and fairly.”

The driver will remain suspended until both police and council investigations are complete and a decision is made on the next steps.
