One of our readers has sent in this picture of the White Tesla Model Y with their Private Hire License Plate sellotaped in the rear window, the reader who doesn’t want to be named said that when the Tesla broke the light made the license plate unreadable. Driver Matty has stated that many drivers do this and many more have them attached to their vehicle incorrectly.
Local councils have started to crack down on incorrectly displayed PHV License plates with large fines, which, if caught more than once could lead to a suspension or license revoke.
Each council has different rules for correctly displaying the PHV License plate so double-check with your local taxi licensing regulations.
As pictured above there are plenty of choices when it comes to displaying your PHV License plate securely, and legally.
Removing your PHV license plate from your vehicle
Not many people are aware of this and it does depend on which council you are licensed with most will not allow you to remove your PHV License plate when it’s being used personally and only licensed drivers can drive that licensed vehicle, so letting your partner get insured and drive it when you’re not working is also not allowed with many councils.
