Wolverhampton PHV Crackdown in Greater Manchester Sees One Vehicle Suspended

A joint compliance operation across Greater Manchester last night saw officers from GMP Traffic team up with Wolverhampton Council to carry out spot checks on private hire vehicles operating in the area.

In total, 16 private hire vehicles (PHVs) licensed by Wolverhampton City Council were stopped and inspected during the coordinated enforcement effort. The operation aimed to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with licensing conditions.

While the majority of vehicles passed inspection, one PHV was immediately suspended after officers identified an engine management fault and a defective rear brake light – both serious issues that could pose safety risks to passengers and other road users.

Officials praised the overall high standard of vehicle condition but issued a reminder to all drivers about the importance of visibly wearing their taxi badges.

“Drivers – wear your badges!” the team stressed, highlighting that identification is not only a legal requirement but also crucial for passenger safety and public confidence.

These types of multi-agency operations are becoming increasingly common as local councils and police forces work together to tackle non-compliance and ensure that out-of-town licensed vehicles operating in their areas meet safety and licensing standards.
