A private hire driver in Liverpool has been suspended after being caught smoking inside their vehicle and committing multiple traffic offences.
The incident occurred during a routine stop by enforcement officers on Wednesday evening. Upon inspection, authorities discovered the driver was smoking within the licensed vehicle — a clear violation of public health laws and private hire regulations.
In addition to the smoking offence, the driver was found to be committing other traffic-related breaches, prompting an immediate suspension of both the vehicle and driver.
The case has now been referred to the relevant Licensing Authority for further investigation and potential disciplinary action.
Enforcement officers reiterated the importance of maintaining public safety and professional standards within the private hire trade. “Licensed drivers have a responsibility to operate within the law and to uphold passenger safety at all times,” a spokesperson stated.
Passengers and members of the public are encouraged to report any concerns or unsafe practices involving licensed vehicles directly to the council’s licensing team.
