UK’S WORST AIRPORTS REVEALED — MANCHESTER PROPS UP THE TABLE, STANSTED NOT FAR BEHIND

Manchester Airport has been named the UK’s worst-rated airport for the second year running, according to a new study analysing Google Maps reviews across Europe.

Holiday rental portal Holidu looked at Google ratings for 85 of Europe’s busiest airports, ranking each one by average score and number of reviews. Manchester came out bottom of the UK table with a rating of 3.2 out of five, with reviewers repeatedly pointing to dated terminals and long queues at security. That’s actually a slight improvement on last year’s 3.1, but it wasn’t enough to shift it off the bottom spot.

London Stansted wasn’t far ahead, landing in second-worst place nationally with a score of 3.3. East Midlands Airport rounded out the UK’s bottom three on 3.4. At the other end of the scale, Liverpool John Lennon Airport climbed eight places to become the UK’s top-rated airport, the only one in the country to break the 4.0 mark, with a score of 4.1. Heathrow and Glasgow both scored 4.0, while Gatwick and Luton also featured in the lower half of the table.

Across Europe as a whole, Istanbul Airport held onto its position as the continent’s best-rated hub for the second year running, while Heraklion in Crete remained the lowest-rated, with passengers describing it as overcrowded and ill-equipped for the volume of summer tourists it handles.

For airport transfer and private hire drivers, rankings like this are worth keeping an eye on — a terminal with a reputation for long queues and delays often means longer waiting times for pickups too, which can eat into a shift.
