Uber is updating the vehicle eligibility requirements for its Comfort, Exec and Lux products in the UK, with drivers adding new vehicles to these tiers facing stricter criteria from this summer.
The updated rules apply to any new vehicle added to a driver’s account for these three products from 1 August 2026 in London, and from 19 October 2026 across the rest of the UK. According to Uber, the changes will assess vehicles based on factors including age, brand, model and vehicle type, with eligibility also depending on whether the model appears on Uber’s updated eligible vehicle list.
Crucially, this isn’t an overnight change for drivers already active on these products. Uber says vehicles currently running Comfort, Exec or Lux trips should not lose eligibility immediately as a result of the update. If a driver’s existing vehicle is affected, Uber says it will contact them by email with details specific to their situation, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the inbox linked to your Uber account over the coming months.
Uber says the changes are intended to create a more consistent experience for riders and help them better understand what to expect when booking a Comfort, Exec or Lux trip through the app.
For drivers thinking about adding a new vehicle to one of these tiers, the message is clear: check the updated criteria before you commit to a car, particularly given how specific some of the new rules are shaping up to be around brand and vehicle age. Anyone unsure whether a vehicle they’re planning to buy or lease will still qualify should hold off until Uber’s updated eligible vehicle list is confirmed, rather than assume the current rules will still apply.
