Two Arrested on Suspicion of Murder After Man Dies Following Salford Balcony Fall

A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following a fall from a balcony at a block of flats in Salford.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were called shortly after midnight on Saturday, 29 August following reports that a man had fallen from a balcony at an address on Liverpool Street.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police have since confirmed that he died in hospital later on Saturday.

A man who was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has now been arrested on suspicion of murder following the victim’s death.

A second man has also been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Both men remain in police custody while detectives continue questioning them and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No charges have been announced in connection with the case at the time of publication.

Greater Manchester Police said a Home Office post-mortem examination was due to take place as investigators work to establish precisely how the man died.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information from people who were in the Liverpool Street area around the time of the incident.

Greater Manchester Police said a team of detectives is working to establish the full sequence of events which led to the man’s death.

The force believes the incident was isolated and has said there is no wider risk to members of the public.

Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who witnessed activity in the area or who may possess mobile phone, CCTV, Ring doorbell or dashcam footage.

The case has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because police had earlier contact with the parties involved.

Greater Manchester Police said referrals of this nature are standard where relevant previous police contact has taken place.

The referral does not itself indicate that wrongdoing by police has been established.

Officers have asked anyone with information to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 quoting log 8 of 29/08/2026.

Information can also be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers.

The investigation remains active and the two men arrested are suspects only. No determination of criminal responsibility has been made.
