A taxi driver has been arrested after his vehicle crashed into a house in Liverpool, in an incident residents said woke them with “two loud bangs.”
Merseyside Police said officers received a report at around 6.45am on Tuesday 4 August that a silver Toyota Corolla — understood to be a taxi — had collided with a house on Asbridge Street in Toxteth. Following initial enquiries, police believe the driver had been involved in an altercation with another motorist shortly before the crash. That other motorist left the scene and is still being sought by officers.
A 40-year-old man from Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of affray and criminal damage and remains in police custody. A police spokesperson confirmed the investigation is at a very early stage, with officers working to establish the full circumstances and appealing for the driver who left the scene to come forward.
Photos from the scene show significant damage to both the taxi and the property, with the house’s front window frame caved in and a large crack running through the window ledge. A neighbour told the Liverpool Echo the noise “sounded like binmen moving the bins” before they realised how serious it was.
