Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is currently experiencing one of its busiest periods in recent history. As the Easter Bank Holiday weekend kicks off, airport officials are forecasting a massive surge in travel, with more than 64,000 passengers expected to pass through the terminal. This represents a significant 40% increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year.
UK’s Most Punctual Airport
The busy holiday season comes on the back of some fantastic news for the airport’s operations. According to the latest data from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Liverpool John Lennon Airport was officially the most punctual airport in the UK for 2025.
The report revealed that 81% of flights departed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. This performance was not only an improvement on the previous year but also sat 8% higher than the national average, cementing LJLA’s reputation as the “Faster, Easier, Friendlier” choice for North West travellers.

New Routes and Airline Expansions
Growth at the airport shows no signs of slowing down, with both Ryanair and easyJet expanding their operations for the 2026 summer season:
- Ryanair: The airline has added a sixth based aircraft at Liverpool, a move that provides an extra 250,000 seats. New routes now taking off include Marrakesh, Tirana, and Warsaw.
- easyJet: The carrier is increasing its Liverpool fleet to nine aircraft. New destinations include Lisbon, Paphos, and Naples, with a brand-new twice-weekly service to Seville set to launch on 2nd August 2026.
- Jet2: Holidaymakers also have more options with Jet2 now flying to Madeira and Malta.
Important Travel Advice
Passengers travelling to the airport this week should be mindful of major rail disruptions. Due to engineering works on the West Coast Main Line, there are no mainline services between London Euston and Milton Keynes until Wednesday, 8th April.
Locally, those travelling from the north should note there are no trains between Preston and Oxenholme on 4th-5th April. If you are heading to the terminal, it is highly recommended to check your local transport links and allow extra time for your journey.
