An easyJet flight from Lisbon to Manchester declared an emergency as it came in to land at Manchester Airport, prompting fire crews to be called to the runway as a precaution.
Flight tracking data showed the aircraft, operating as flight EZY72NL/U22210, flew unusually low as it approached the airport before pulling back up to a higher altitude and entering a holding pattern near Ashton. It later went in for a landing and was met by fire crews on the taxiway. According to reports, it’s understood a flap may have become stuck and failed to deploy on approach.
Flightradar data confirmed the unusual flight pattern in the lead-up to the aircraft touching down late on Monday evening, 3 August. Following the landing, the plane was able to taxi forward to the gate with all passengers still on board. Manchester Airport and easyJet have both been approached for further comment on the incident.
For drivers doing airport pickups, incidents like this are a good reminder that a “declared emergency” landing doesn’t always mean a dramatic outcome — fire crews attending as a precaution is standard procedure, and in this case the flight landed safely with everyone able to continue to the gate as normal.
