A new initiative has been launched across the UK to enhance safety for individuals attending gigs alone—particularly women—by providing practical support and travel discounts. This scheme is a collaboration between Strut Safe, Viagogo, and Uber, aiming to address growing concerns about personal safety when returning home from late-night events.

Recent research indicates that 27% of UK women would be more inclined to attend gigs solo if they felt safer during their journey home. Strut Safe, a volunteer-led support line offering reassurance and phone companionship to people walking home alone, has reported a 28% increase in calls over the past year, particularly after 11pm on weekends. Common concerns include walking alone, lack of phone signal, and waiting in deserted transport areas.
To support this initiative, Uber is offering a £10 discount on late-night rides (8pm–6am) starting 4 April 2025. The code ruGtzslERHA can be redeemed once per user in the Uber app.
With live music events increasing this summer, the partnership aims to ensure everyone can enjoy nights out without compromising their safety. However, 40% of women and 35% of LGBTQ+ gig-goers are still unaware of Strut Safe’s support line: 0333 335 0026. The team behind the initiative hopes to remove one of the biggest barriers to independent gig-going—getting home safe.
