Jonathan Mitchell has been jailed for four years after repeatedly kicking a South Shields taxi driver, forcing him out of the vehicle and driving away in the stolen cab.
Mitchell was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court after pleading guilty to robbery, burglary, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. The court also imposed a driving ban lasting four years and seven months.
The taxi robbery happened on 18 April 2026. Mitchell had changed the destination during the journey before attacking the driver, kicking him at least 10 times. The driver was then forced out of the taxi, allowing Mitchell to drive away.
