Rail services between Purley, Redhill and Gatwick Airport were disrupted on Thursday evening after a train fault blocked some lines.
National Rail reported the incident at 18:34 on 3 September. Gatwick Express, Great Western Railway, Southern and Thameslink services were affected.
Passengers were warned that services could be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised while the disruption continued. The incident was expected to remain in place until 22:30.
The affected route is used by passengers travelling to and from Gatwick Airport, as well as by airport-transfer operators relying on rail connections through Purley and Redhill. The disruption means journey times and planned connections may change at short notice.

National Rail advised passengers to allow at least 30 extra minutes for their journeys and to check live journey information before travelling.
The advice applies to journeys affected by the train fault between the relevant stations and Gatwick Airport. Passengers using Gatwick Express, Great Western Railway, Southern or Thameslink services should check the latest service position before setting out, particularly if travelling close to the expected 22:30 end time.
No further outcome was included in the disruption notice. Services may therefore remain subject to cancellation, revision or delay until the incident is cleared.
