easyJet has recorded the busiest day in its history, operating more than 2,000 flights and carrying over 343,000 passengers across its network in a single day.
The record was set on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, as the airline operated one of the largest single-day flying programmes in its history.
The UK accounted for a substantial proportion of the activity.
More than 196,000 passengers travelled to or from easyJet’s UK airports on more than 1,100 flights during the record-breaking day.
The milestone comes during what easyJet describes as its biggest-ever summer season.
More than 39 million seats have been scheduled to and from the UK during the summer programme, approximately half a million more than last year.
The airline has also launched 53 new routes during the season, expanding its network to destinations across Europe and North Africa.
Eight additional Airbus A320-family aircraft have joined easyJet’s UK-based fleet at Bristol, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow.
The expansion has increased capacity at several regional airports as the airline continues growing outside its traditional London bases.
Newcastle has also become easyJet’s newest UK base during 2026.
The timing of the record coincided with the end of the school summer holidays and followed the August Bank Holiday weekend, traditionally one of the busiest periods for leisure travel.
Popular late-summer destinations included Palma, Faro, Alicante and Milan, while Palma, Tenerife and Rhodes were among the most popular destinations for easyJet Holidays customers.

The airline’s expansion is particularly significant for regional UK airports.
Manchester and Liverpool are both among the airports receiving additional based aircraft, increasing the number of flights and destinations available to passengers across the North West.

Its UK network now includes more than 650 routes connecting passengers with 139 destinations across Europe and beyond.
Across its wider European network, easyJet operates more than 350 aircraft on over 1,200 routes serving more than 160 airports in 35 countries.
The airline carried approximately 100 million passengers during 2025.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said the latest record demonstrated continued demand for affordable air travel and connectivity.
The airline is continuing to offer additional capacity into September as the traditional peak summer season begins to wind down.
The record also illustrates the scale of ground transport demand generated by major airlines, with hundreds of thousands of passengers requiring connections to and from airports through rail, buses, private cars, taxis and private hire services every day.
With easyJet adding aircraft and routes at regional airports including Liverpool and Manchester, passenger growth could also generate additional demand for airport transfers and local transport services in those areas.
