An 18-year-old man has died after being struck by multiple vehicles on the M25 in Surrey, prompting an overnight motorway closure and major disruption for motorists.
Surrey Police said officers were called to the anticlockwise carriageway between Junction 11 at Chertsey and Junction 10 at Wisley shortly before 11.50pm on Monday, 31 August.
The incident involved a pedestrian and multiple vehicles.
The 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed.
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made.
Both carriageways of the M25 were closed between Junctions 10 and 11 overnight while emergency services attended and investigators examined the scene.
The nearby A245 Parvis Road was also closed in both directions.
During the closure, Surrey Police warned motorists travelling towards Heathrow and Gatwick airports to check their journey times before setting off because of the expected disruption.
The closure continued into the morning peak, with motorists facing lengthy delays and congestion on surrounding roads as traffic was diverted away from the motorway.
National Highways advised drivers to leave the M25 at Junction 11 and use a diversion through Ottershaw and Woking before travelling along the A245 towards Cobham and returning to the motorway via the A3 at Junction 10.
The motorway and A245 have since reopened.

Surrey Police is now trying to establish the circumstances that led to the pedestrian being on the motorway before the fatal collision occurred.
Officers have appealed for witnesses who were travelling on the M25 around the time of the incident to come forward.
Investigators are particularly interested in obtaining CCTV, dashcam or helmet-camera footage that could help establish what happened.

The collision occurred on one of the busiest sections of the M25, close to the recently upgraded Junction 10 interchange and an important motorway route for traffic travelling between Surrey and both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
The investigation remains ongoing and police have not suggested criminal responsibility on the part of any individual involved.
