Passengers flying from Jersey to London can now check in their hold luggage the evening before their journey, under a new service designed to ease congestion during the airport’s busiest morning periods.
Jersey Airport’s “Twilight Bag Drop” launched on Thursday 30 July and runs daily from 4.30pm to 8pm. It’s available to British Airways passengers travelling on Heathrow-bound flights departing before midday, allowing them to drop off their hold luggage the night before rather than joining the queue on the morning of departure.
Jamie Loudon, Jersey Airport’s Head of Terminal and Transformation, said the scheme was about making travel easier and more convenient, giving passengers “greater flexibility” and letting them “arrive at the airport knowing their bags have already been processed.” The service comes after a number of travellers missed flights in the preceding weeks due to security staffing issues causing long queues, with the airport opening its doors as early as 5.30am and first flights often departing around 7am.
Passengers using the service can also make use of complimentary 30-minute parking in the airport’s long-stay car park when dropping off luggage the evening before. Jersey Airport has confirmed it plans to extend the scheme to other airlines, destinations and selected charter flights in future, though for now it’s British Airways passengers checked in online for Heathrow services only. Standard arrival time recommendations remain unchanged — passengers are still advised to arrive at least two hours before departure, or 90 minutes for early “red eye” flights.
For drivers dropping passengers at Jersey Airport on the evening before an early flight, this is worth flagging to regular customers — it could shift some passengers’ airport-run timings from a stressful early morning dash to a more relaxed evening drop-off instead.
