Two Liverpool Taxis Suspended and Three Drivers Reported After School Wheelchair Transport Inspection

Liverpool City Council’s licensing enforcement team has suspended two licensed Hackney Carriage vehicles and reported three drivers for offences, following an inspection at a special educational needs (SEN) school in South Liverpool.

Officers attended the school after receiving reports of concerns about how children who use wheelchairs were being transported. In a statement, Liverpool City Council Licensing said officers had identified “significant safety issues” relating to Hackney Carriage transport during the visit, resulting in the three drivers being reported.

The council hasn’t released details of the specific offences or defects found, and DM News hasn’t been able to independently confirm those details either. What is clear is that the case has put a spotlight on the standards expected of vehicles and drivers carrying vulnerable young passengers to and from school — particularly around wheelchair restraint systems and how passengers are secured for the journey.

A council spokesperson reiterated that “passenger safety remains our priority”, and the outcome serves as a reminder to operators working on school transport contracts that compliance checks can and do happen without warning.

If you’re arranging transport in or around the city, Manpool is a Liverpool-based airport transfer operator worth knowing, offering dependable pick-ups and drop-offs across Merseyside.
