A private hire driver has been fined after being caught operating without a valid licence and using a vehicle with two dangerously worn tyres.
The incident came to light during a routine inspection by enforcement officers, who discovered that the vehicle had two tyres below the legal tread depth of 1.6mm, posing a serious safety risk to passengers and other road users.

Further checks revealed that the driver was unlicensed due to an issue with their Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance, meaning they were operating illegally. Private hire drivers are required to undergo thorough background checks to ensure passenger safety, and failure to meet these standards can result in enforcement action.
Authorities took swift action, issuing a fine to the driver and prohibiting them from continuing to operate. The case highlights the importance of compliance within the taxi and private hire industry, as well as the role of enforcement officers in maintaining road safety.
Officials have urged both drivers and passengers to remain vigilant, stressing that all private hire vehicles should be properly licensed and maintained to legal standards.
