A video shared on Instagram shows the moment an Amazon delivery driver became stranded after reportedly following GPS directions onto tidal mudflats described in the post as Britain’s “deadliest footpath”.
In the reel on Instagram, the van can be seen partially submerged in rising water after driving along a narrow causeway across mudflats. Only the upper section of the vehicle remains visible above the waterline as waves move around it. A warning sign is visible near the route in the footage.
According to the description accompanying the video, the driver followed sat nav directions onto the tidal path. The van became stuck as the tide came in, but the driver escaped safely. No injuries were reported in the post.
The clip highlights the risks of navigating coastal or tidal areas where access can change rapidly depending on the time of day and tide levels.

DM News Commentary
Stories like this always grab attention, especially when a professional driver ends up in a situation caused by blindly following GPS directions.
For drivers in the taxi, private hire and delivery sectors, sat nav is part of everyday work. But it’s a tool — not a decision-maker. Coastal crossings, tidal routes, farm tracks and restricted roads can all appear as valid routes on digital maps.
This incident appears to show how quickly things can go wrong when local knowledge or warning signs are overlooked. Thankfully, the driver got out safely — but it could easily have ended very differently.
It’s another reminder that no matter how advanced technology becomes, responsibility still sits with the person behind the wheel.
