Travellers heading to Heathrow Airport this weekend are being warned to expect significant disruption as both the Elizabeth line and the Heathrow Express will be completely shut on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November due to engineering works.
The closure was confirmed by National Rail., which stated that services between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Airport will not operate across the whole weekend.
According to the Evening Standard, the suspension affects one of Heathrow’s busiest travel weekends in November, with thousands relying on fast rail links into London.
Heathrow Airport has also issued an advisory, reminding passengers that Piccadilly line Tube services will continue to run, but they are expected to be far busier than usual.
What’s closed this weekend?
- Elizabeth line: No trains will run to or from Heathrow on 15–16 November (National Rail)
- Heathrow Express: Full weekend suspension between Paddington and Heathrow (National Rail)
- Piccadilly line: Operating as normal, but likely to be overcrowded (Heathrow Airport)
Advice for passengers
- Allow extra time for your journey — rail alternatives will be severely limited.
- Use the Piccadilly line, though expect queues at peak times.
- If you’re flying into Heathrow, it may be sensible to pre-book a private transfer with DM Airport Transfers to avoid queues and uncertainty.
- Check live travel updates throughout the weekend

DM News Commentary
This is one of the more disruptive weekend closures Heathrow has seen in recent months, and it lands during a busy pre-Christmas travel period. For the taxi and private-hire industry, demand around Heathrow is likely to jump sharply — especially for longer-distance journeys that the Elizabeth line would normally handle.
Drivers working near west London should expect:
- Higher demand for early-morning airport runs
- Increased drop-off and pick-up traffic
- Potential congestion around Heathrow’s road network
With rail services offline, many travellers will turn to taxis and private-hire vehicles, making pre-booked transfers an essential option for those flying into the airport. It’s moments like these that highlight how vital the taxi and PHV trade is for keeping Heathrow reliably connected.
