A follower of Driver Matty got in touch with DM News after noticing an apparent overcharge on his Uber receipt for a journey home from Manchester Airport Terminal 2.
The passenger shared screenshots showing that the airport’s official pick-up fee for up to 15 minutes outside Terminal 2 is £6.40, according to the airport’s official website. However, Uber charged him £7.90 for the “MAN airport pick-up fee” — £1.50 more than the airport’s published rate.

After contacting Uber customer support, the passenger said the company reviewed his case and refunded the difference.
This small discrepancy serves as a warning to all drivers and passengers to double-check their Uber bills — especially for airport pick-ups, where fees are automatically added. Overcharges may go unnoticed, particularly for regular travellers or drivers completing multiple airport runs per week.
DM News Commentary:
While Uber may rely on third-party data for airport fees, this case highlights how minor mismatches can slip through unnoticed. Airport charges are often adjusted periodically, and drivers or passengers should make a habit of reviewing receipts to ensure accuracy. Transparency on these fees remains crucial for both riders and the taxi/private hire industry.
Could it be that Uber is adding the £1.50 charge from the Manchester Airport private hire waiting area? If so, it raises an interesting point — the fee should ideally appear as a separate charge on receipts, especially as not all drivers make use of that facility, which could create inconsistencies in fare calculations.
