Heathrow Airport Car Park Fire Causes Disruption on 1 October 2025

A fire has broken out at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 3 multi-storey car park this morning (1 October 2025), forcing evacuations, road closures, and causing disruption for passengers heading to the airport.

Fire Response

  • London Fire Brigade confirmed that four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended the scene after a vehicle fire started on the first floor of the car park.
  • Thick smoke was seen billowing from the structure as crews worked to contain the blaze.
  • The road tunnel to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 was temporarily closed while emergency services managed the incident.

Impact on Passengers

  • Heathrow officials stressed that the incident is isolated to the Terminal 3 car park, with all flights continuing as normal.
  • Passengers using Terminals 1–3 faced delays due to the tunnel closure and surrounding traffic congestion.
  • Bus operator Arriva confirmed that its 724 service will no longer serve stops at Greenways and Lees Road, instead diverting to and from Terminal 5.

Road Chaos on the M25

Compounding the disruption, a serious crash on the M25 near Junction 14 (Airport Way) closed all four lanes earlier this morning, with National Highways warning delays could last until midday. Drivers have been advised to seek alternative routes via the M4 J3 or M25 J15 depending on their direction of travel.

Heathrow’s Statement

A Heathrow spokesperson said:

“Earlier this morning our teams responded to a small vehicle fire in the Multi Storey Car Park for Terminal 3. The fire was quickly extinguished. The car park is temporarily closed which may cause some congestion on surrounding roads. This is an isolated incident and all other car parks at Heathrow are operating as normal. We apologise to passengers for any inconvenience.”

Context – Recent Infrastructure Concerns

This incident comes just months after a major fire at an electrical substation in March 2025 caused a complete power outage at Heathrow, grounding more than 1,300 flights. While today’s car park fire is unrelated, it again highlights the vulnerability of airport infrastructure to sudden disruptions.

Advice for Travellers

  • Check flight status before leaving home.
  • Allow extra travel time due to traffic congestion.
  • Avoid using the closed Terminal 3 car park and access tunnel.
  • Follow diversions and look out for guidance from airport staff.
