Best and Worst UK Airports Revealed for 2025

Exeter Airport has been crowned the best airport in the UK in the latest Which? 2025 airport rankings, with smaller regional hubs once again outperforming the country’s larger, busier airports.

The study was based on almost 5,800 responses covering close to 8,000 airport visits across the UK, scoring airports on queues, facilities, customer service and overall passenger experience.

Exeter Airport Tops the List

Exeter Airport achieved an impressive 80% customer score, receiving five-star ratings for security queues, check-in, baggage handling, toilets and overall customer service.

Passengers praised the airport for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere, describing it as “stress-free” compared with the hustle and bustle of major hubs.

However, Exeter also saw one of the higher rates of last-minute cancellations (3.1%), mainly due to weather-sensitive routes to the Channel Islands and Isles of Scilly.

Other Highly Rated Regional Airports

Several other regional airports performed strongly and were awarded Recommended Provider status by Which?, including:

  • Liverpool John Lennon Airport – 78%
  • London City Airport – 76%
  • Bournemouth – 73%
  • Newcastle – 72%
  • Norwich – 72%

London City earned five stars in every queue-related category, making it one of the fastest airports in the country. Newcastle also gained recognition for its modernised layout and upgraded security scanning systems.

The Struggles of Major UK Airports

At the other end of the scale, Manchester Airport Terminal 3 was rated the UK’s worst-performing airport with just 43%, criticised for poor seating, long queues, limited shopping options and expensive food.

London’s airports also failed to impress. Luton came in with just 51%, scoring lowest of the capital’s hubs. Heathrow fared slightly better, with Terminal 5 achieving 59% and ranking as the best of London’s offerings. But passengers still reported long queues, baggage delays, high costs and limited seating.

What This Means for Taxi and Private Hire Drivers

For drivers serving airports, the report highlights the growing demand from passengers for calmer, more efficient travel experiences. Regional airports such as Exeter, Liverpool and Newcastle are increasingly popular for stress-free journeys, making them attractive options for transfers.

Larger airports like Manchester and Heathrow remain key hubs, but long queues and delays can complicate pickups and drop-offs. Operators may wish to factor in extra time when serving these airports.
