Liverpool City Council Backs Local Taxi Licensing with “Backing Our Taxis” Sticker Campaign

Liverpool City Council Licensing has launched a new initiative to support local taxi and private hire drivers with a clear message: Local. Licensed. Trusted.

As part of the newly launched “Backing Our Taxis” campaign, the council is offering free window stickers to all LCC-licensed taxi and private hire drivers. The aim is to promote the use of locally licensed, regulated drivers over the growing number of out-of-area vehicles operating in the region.

The circular purple-and-pink sticker features two vehicle icons and the official Liverpool City Council logo, alongside the slogan “Backing our taxis – Local. Licensed. Trusted.” Drivers are encouraged to display the sticker on their vehicle windows to signal their licensing compliance and public safety standards.

Where to Get Your Sticker

Any LCC-licensed driver or vehicle owner can collect a sticker by visiting Victoria House on the following days:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday
  • Between 1pm and 3pm

No appointment is required—drivers simply need to turn up during the stated hours.

Standing Up for Local Drivers

This campaign arrives at a critical time. With a significant rise in Wolverhampton-licensed and out-of-area private hire vehicles operating in Liverpool, local drivers have expressed frustration about the lack of enforcement and level playing field. The council’s move is seen as a small but important gesture to visibly back those who have chosen to operate under the local licensing authority.

A spokesperson for LCC Licensing said:

“This initiative supports drivers who work hard, meet local licensing standards, and help keep Liverpool’s roads safe. We’re encouraging passengers to choose licensed drivers they can trust.”

Raising Public Awareness

The #backingourtaxis campaign is also being promoted across social media to raise awareness among the travelling public. By recognising and supporting LCC-licensed vehicles, the council hopes to reinforce the importance of safe, vetted, and locally regulated drivers—especially in the age of app-based ride-hailing.

This move has already been welcomed by many in the industry, with some calling for further reforms to limit the impact of out-of-town vehicles on Liverpool’s private hire trade.
