A proposed increase in Worcester hackney carriage fares has been delayed after two objections were lodged before the statutory deadline, including opposition from the Worcester Taxi Association.
The revised fare table was due to take effect on 20 August 2026, but did not start after both objections were submitted by members of the taxi trade. The Licensing and Environmental Health Committee is due to consider the objections on 7 September.
Officers are proposing that the revised fares could instead begin on 15 September, subject to the committee’s consideration of the objections and the fare-table issue identified in the report.
The Worcester Taxi Association has recorded clear opposition to the proposed increase. Its survey produced two votes in favour and 67 against the rise.

The advertised notice proposed increasing the daytime flag fare from £4.30 to £5.00. It also set out an increase in the night and Sunday flag fare from £5.50 to £6.40.
However, the report’s draft appendix does not match the night and Sunday fare position set out in the advertised notice. That discrepancy remains part of the matter being considered ahead of any revised implementation date.
The proposed changes therefore remain subject to the objections process and have not taken effect. The committee’s 7 September meeting is the next scheduled stage in the review, with 15 September identified as a possible start date by officers.
For Worcester taxi drivers, the decision will determine whether the advertised increases proceed and how the fare tables are finalised. Passengers should continue to check the fare displayed by the vehicle, as the revised table is not currently in force.
