Worcester Passenger Jailed for Nine Months After Assaulting Taxi Driver in Front of Child

A Worcester man has been jailed for nine months after assaulting a taxi driver inside his cab in front of a child.

Stuart Halliday, 44, appeared at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 20 August, in connection with offences including assault by beating against taxi driver Azanuhr Rahman.

The assault happened in Wychbold on 9 May 2025.

According to a court report published on 24 August, magistrates noted that the assault itself was brief but was aggravated by the circumstances in which it took place, including the confined space inside the vehicle and the presence of a child.

The court also dealt with separate motoring offences committed by Halliday after the taxi-driver assault.

Halliday was caught driving a BMW in Worcester on 10 June while he was already disqualified from driving and without insurance.

Magistrates were also told that the offences had been committed while Halliday was subject to a suspended sentence.

He was sentenced to a total of nine months in prison. Five months of the sentence related to the assault on the taxi driver, while a further four months were imposed for driving while disqualified.

Halliday was also ordered to pay £154 compensation to Mr Rahman and was disqualified from driving for three years and 137 days.

The case is another reminder of the risks taxi and private hire drivers can face while working, particularly when an incident takes place inside the confined environment of a vehicle.

For drivers, assaults can have consequences extending beyond the immediate physical impact, including time away from work and the loss of earnings that can follow.

Halliday has now been sentenced by the court, meaning this is a conviction and sentencing case rather than an allegation or ongoing prosecution.
