UK Summons Russian Diplomat Over Leipzig Airport Drone Attack

Britain has summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires after Germany attributed an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport to Russia.

The Foreign Office confirmed the diplomatic action on 3 September, describing the incident as egregious and reckless. It said the attack formed part of a wider pattern of hostile Russian activity.

The summons follows the attempted attack at the German airport on 4 August. Germany had attributed responsibility for the incident to Russia, prompting a formal response from the UK.

Britain also expressed solidarity with Germany and condemned the incident. The move represents a new stage in the UK’s public response to the airport attack, rather than a new report of the incident itself.

Russia has denied the allegations and rejected the diplomatic response. Moscow described the claim as fabricated and characterised the wider reaction as a coordinated provocation.

The Leipzig/Halle incident has therefore become the subject of a direct diplomatic dispute between Russia, Germany and the UK. The Foreign Office’s action places the airport attack within Britain’s broader criticism of what it describes as hostile Russian activity.
