Northamptonshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was assaulted in what officers are treating as a racially aggravated attack in Northampton.
The incident happened on Billing Road, near the junction with Palmerston Road and Cliftonville, in the early hours of Saturday, 23 May. Police say a man was seen assaulting the taxi driver between 1.45am and 2am.
A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said a 23-year-old man from Daventry, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who has any information that could help. Witnesses can contact Northamptonshire Police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. Information can also be submitted online via the force’s website. Anyone getting in touch is asked to quote incident number 26000297344 so it reaches the right team as quickly as possible.
Sadly, attacks on drivers are something this trade knows all too well. If you’ve ever been on the receiving end of abuse or violence behind the wheel, reporting it — and backing fellow drivers who do — matters.
