Polestar has launched a new SUV version of the Polestar 4 in the UK, bringing more practicality, a longer-range option and one particularly noticeable change – it has a conventional rear window.
The new Polestar 4 SUV officially went on sale on Wednesday, 2 September, with UK prices starting from £54,750.
It joins the existing coupe-style Polestar 4 rather than replacing it, giving buyers a more conventional and practical alternative within the same model family.
One of the most talked-about features of the original Polestar 4 was its complete lack of a rear window.
Instead, the coupe uses a roof-mounted camera and digital rear-view display to show the driver what is behind the vehicle.
The new SUV takes a different approach, introducing a heated curved rear window together with an integrated rear wiper and washer.
A digital interior rear-view mirror remains available as an option, meaning drivers can still use a camera-based rear view if they prefer.
The body has also been redesigned with a straighter roofline and more upright tailgate, increasing luggage capacity and rear-seat practicality.
Polestar quotes 530 litres of boot space measured to the rear seat backs, increasing to 655 litres when loaded to the roof.
With the rear seats folded, total rear luggage capacity rises to 1,665 litres, while a separate 15-litre front storage compartment provides additional space.
Two powertrain configurations are being offered in the UK.
The entry-level Rear motor version costs from £54,750 and produces 200kW, equivalent to around 268bhp, with 253lb-ft of torque.
Polestar quotes a WLTP range target of up to 391 miles for this model.
Acceleration from 0-60mph takes 7.1 seconds and the top speed is limited to 124mph.
The Dual motor version starts from £60,750 and uses electric motors on both axles to provide all-wheel drive.
Combined output rises to 400kW, around 536bhp, with 506lb-ft of torque.
That reduces the 0-60mph time to 3.8 seconds, while the WLTP range target is up to 373 miles.

Both versions use a 100kWh lithium-ion battery operating on a 400-volt architecture.
DC rapid charging is supported at up to 200kW, with Polestar quoting approximately 30 minutes for a 10% to 80% charge under suitable conditions.
Standard AC charging operates at up to 11kW, while a 22kW AC charging option is also available.
The SUV additionally supports vehicle-to-load technology at up to 3.3kW, allowing the battery to power suitable external electrical equipment through an adapter.
Practicality extends beyond luggage space, with the Rear motor version rated to tow up to 1,500kg and the Dual motor capable of towing up to 2,000kg.
The roof can carry up to 100kg while driving and Polestar lists a static roof load capacity of up to 300kg, potentially making the car suitable for roof tents and camping equipment.
Technology inside includes a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, a 10.2-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Google’s connected services.
Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Gemini integration are available through the vehicle’s connected systems.
The new model also introduces dedicated Animal, Keep Climate, Car Wash and Camping modes.
Polestar’s battery warranty covers eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
The company states that if battery state of health falls below 70% of its original capacity within that period, the battery will be repaired or replaced at no cost under the terms of the warranty.
The standard vehicle warranty covers three years or 60,000 miles.
The arrival of the SUV is particularly interesting because Polestar has effectively turned one of the original Polestar 4’s most controversial characteristics into a point of differentiation between the two models.
Drivers who like the coupe’s unusual camera-only rear view can continue buying that version, while customers wanting a conventional rear window, more luggage space and a more traditional SUV shape now have another option.
First UK customer deliveries of the Polestar 4 SUV are planned for the final quarter of 2026.
