Liverpool City Council has rolled out a fresh wave of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) enforcement cameras across the city, targeting moving traffic offences that are catching out many taxi and Uber drivers.
The cameras are now live at multiple key locations, monitoring offences such as driving in bus lanes, ignoring no-entry signs, blocking yellow box junctions, and entering school streets during restricted times. These rules were previously only enforced by police, but now carry a £70 penalty, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days.
📍 Key Locations of the New Cameras

- Lime Street Bus Link (Skelhorne St to St George’s Place) – Private vehicles prohibited at all times.

💼 What Taxi and PHV Drivers Should Know
Liverpool’s new traffic rules are part of a broader push to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and cut emissions. But for taxi and Uber drivers, these changes mean more risk of fines if signage is ignored—especially around the city centre and near schools.
Many of the zones, such as Lime Street and the bus link routes, are vital to taxi operations. Drivers are urged to familiarise themselves with all updated road restrictions and timings, especially during term time in school areas.
🚨 Enforcement Details
- Penalty Charge: £70 (reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days)
- Types of offences:
- Driving through bus-only or access-only zones
- Turning where restricted (e.g., banned U-turns or left turns)
- Blocking yellow box junctions
- Entering School Streets during operational hours

Failing to pay attention could lead to unnecessary fines. For drivers working the Liverpool circuit regularly, it’s essential to stay informed and alert behind the wheel.
