BYD presented the ETT 44, a battery-electric 4×2 tractor unit intended for combinations of up to 44 tonnes, at IAA Transportation in Hannover on 14 September 2026.
The vehicle represents BYD’s entry into the European long-haul heavy-truck segment. Reported commercial launch information indicates that European deliveries are expected from the second quarter of 2027, rather than immediately.
The ETT 44 is reported to use a 651kWh Blade Battery with lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, cell chemistry. BYD quotes a maximum range of up to 600km, equivalent to about 372 miles. This is a manufacturer claim and should not be treated as a certified UK real-world operating range.
The reported rated output is 743PS, with peak system output of up to 1,000PS. Its electrical architecture is reported to operate at a nominal 851.2V.
BYD says the ETT 44 can accept more than 1.5MW through a megawatt charging system. The company quotes a charge from 20% to 80% in about 20 minutes when using megawatt charging.
A CCS2 connection is reported to provide charging at up to 420kW, with the same 20% to 80% state-of-charge interval taking around 60 minutes. The quoted charging, range and power figures remain subject to final confirmation and market specification.

The ETT 44 is also reported to have a battery warranty lasting 10 years or covering 1.2 million kilometres.
Euro NCAP assessed the model as a 4×2 electric tractor and awarded it five stars, along with a CitySafe award. The organisation recorded scores of 89% for Safe Driving, 73% for Crash Avoidance and 80% for Post-Crash Safety.
Euro NCAP said direct vision was a particular strength of the ETT 44. Its assessment also identified scope to improve several crash-avoidance functions.
Euro NCAP described the ETT 44 as the first long-haul electric truck assessed under its truck safety regime. Reported launch coverage also said BYD displayed rigid 4×2 and 6×2 electric truck variants at the Hannover event, alongside other commercial vehicles.
The ETT 44’s quoted technical figures and charging claims relate to the unveiled vehicle and await final confirmation for individual European markets.
