A UK Uber driver has taken to social media after receiving a surprise notification from the platform — a safety complaint filed about a trip that took place nearly six months ago.

Uber Driver Faces Vehicle Suspension Over Six-Month-Old Seatbelt Complaint

Bradley Cook, a member of the popular UK – UBER DRIVERS Facebook group, shared the unexpected update in a humorous post. According to Cook, Uber contacted him regarding a trip that occurred on 14th October 2024, following a rider’s allegation of a faulty seatbelt.

“Loool someone has just made a complaint about a trip I did in OCTOBER — we are now in April 😂😂 (My seatbelts do work),” wrote Cook, expressing disbelief at the delay between the ride and the complaint.

Despite the time that had passed, Uber informed Cook that a temporary hold had been placed on his 2016 Audi A3 until confirmation could be provided that the vehicle was in roadworthy condition.

In the message sent to Cook, Uber stated:

“We’re contacting you following some concerning feedback we received from a rider during one of your trips on 14th October 2024 at 11:46 AM. In this instance, they made a safety report against you regarding an alleged faulty seatbelt.”

This situation has sparked discussion among other drivers in the community, many of whom are concerned about delayed reports and the implications they could have on their ability to work — especially when action is taken without immediate evidence or verification.

The post has since drawn support from fellow drivers, with many questioning the fairness of retrospective complaints resulting in sudden vehicle suspensions.
