Royal Mail Worker Jailed After Stealing Parcels Suspected of Containing Drugs

A former Royal Mail logistics worker has been jailed for six years and nine months after admitting to stealing parcels suspected of containing drugs and redirecting them to addresses linked to him.

Amjad Ali, 50, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on 3 September after pleading guilty to supplying cannabis, stealing parcels, possessing criminal property and possessing an offensive weapon.

Thames Valley Police said searches linked to the investigation uncovered more than £1.2 million in cash. Officers found £1,185,420 in a storage locker and a further £42,290 at Ali’s home.

The force described the seizure as its biggest ever cash seizure. Ali had worked at a Royal Mail logistics centre in Slough, where he redirected parcels suspected of containing drugs.

The case combines a parcel-theft conviction with a significant drug-supply investigation, after police traced cash and other evidence to Ali’s activities. The sentence covers the offences to which he pleaded guilty.

Ali’s conviction follows the investigation by Thames Valley Police into the handling of parcels and the cash discovered during searches. The force announced the sentence and seizure on 3 September.

The case highlights the potential criminal consequences for logistics workers who misuse access to parcels or become involved in drug supply. Ali will serve a six-year-and-nine-month prison sentence following the hearing at Reading Crown Court.
