Liverpool John Lennon Airport is heading for what could be its busiest summer on record, with nearly 930,000 passengers expected to pass through the terminal between the start of the school holidays and the end of August — a 7% rise on last year.
Robin Tudor, Head of PR at LJLA, said passenger numbers have stayed ahead of last year’s figures despite what’s been a genuinely tough period for the aviation industry, including ongoing unrest in the Middle East. He said the airport is expecting to welcome thousands of holidaymakers from across the North West and North Wales over the coming weeks, with many choosing Liverpool over the bigger London airports for its shorter queues and easier access.
This follows on from a strong twelve months for the airport more broadly. LJLA broke its all-time annual passenger record in the year to January 2026, with chief executive John Irving crediting the milestone to sustained investment in facilities and continued demand from across the wider City Region. If this summer keeps pace with current growth, LJLA looks set to beat its own record again before the year is out.
For drivers, that steady climb in passenger numbers is worth watching. More holidaymakers flying from Liverpool generally means more demand for airport transfers, pick-ups and drop-offs throughout August, particularly around peak departure and arrival windows.
