CCTV Appeal Launched After Taxi Driver Assaulted Outside Manchester City Centre Hotel

Greater Manchester Police have released a CCTV image of two men they want to speak to following an assault on a taxi driver in Manchester city centre.

The incident happened outside The Rex Hotel on King Street between 11.30pm and 11.55pm on 17 June. Officers say the taxi driver was left with a swollen nose and a sore neck as a result of the attack.

In a public appeal, Greater Manchester Police said they believed the men pictured could help with their investigation into the assault. Anyone who recognises them, or who has any information about what happened, is being asked to get in touch by calling 101 or using the live chat service on the Greater Manchester Police website, quoting reference CRI/06A2/0017843/26.

Assaults on taxi drivers remain a persistent problem across the UK, with drivers frequently facing the brunt of late-night disputes and unprovoked violence simply for doing their job. Cases like this are a reminder of just how vulnerable drivers can be during busy weekend hours in city centres, and why prompt public appeals matter in bringing offenders to justice.

If you’re planning a night out or an early start in Manchester, pre-booking a reliable transfer can take away a lot of the uncertainty of trying to flag down a cab late at night. Manpool Transfers offers professional, pre-booked airport and city transfers across Manchester and Liverpool, giving passengers a safer, more predictable alternative to waiting around on the street.

Anyone with information about this assault is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 or via their website, quoting the reference above.
