Uber Black Just Got a Very Tasty Upgrade — Your Driver Can Now Pick Up Your Coffee

If you’ve ever booked an Uber Black and thought, “I wish my coffee was already waiting for me when the car pulls up,” then Uber has been listening.

At its annual GO-GET 2026 event in New York City on 29 April, Uber announced a new feature for Uber Black and Uber Black SUV riders — passengers can now add Uber Eats items, including coffee, for their driver to pick up along the way.

The feature is called Eats for the Way, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Once your Uber Reserve is confirmed, you simply tap “add Uber Eats” to select your coffee, tea, or bite just the way you like it. By the time the car arrives, your order is already on board. It’s the kind of thing that used to feel like a fantasy reserved for people with actual private drivers.

The programme is launching in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, and Austin, Texas over the next few weeks. No word yet on a UK rollout, but given Uber’s expansion ambitions, it probably won’t be too long before Londoners are requesting flat whites with their black cars.

It’s worth noting this isn’t just a standalone tweak — it’s part of a much bigger picture. At the GO-GET 2026 event, Uber unveiled a variety of new features spanning travel, dining, shopping and accessibility. The company is clearly pushing hard to become more than just a ride-hailing app, positioning itself as an all-in-one platform. Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, described the company as evolving into an app for everything, helping people “go, get, and now travel all in one place.”

For Uber Black riders specifically, the appeal is pretty obvious. This is already a premium tier — drivers must maintain a rating of 4.85 or above, hold commercial auto insurance, and meet strict vehicle requirements — so the addition of a pre-ordered drink fits neatly into that elevated experience. Early morning airport runs are the obvious use case, but honestly, it works just as well for a mid-afternoon meeting when you haven’t had a chance to grab a brew.

Whether it changes the game or just becomes a nice little perk remains to be seen. But as far as updates go, this one’s hard to argue with.
